Inner Man


It isn't about what we look like on the outside whether than be clothes, jewelry, make up or even our outward actions/behaviors. We are talking about inner beauty. When 1 Peter 3:3-4 notes "hidden person/hidden man" it is talking about something that is concealed. You are not able to see it by dress or ornament. It lies within. Many times behaviors and actions can be shown but disconnected from inner man. Bible notes say that the expression used in 1 Peter 3:3-4 is the same Paul uses in Romans 7:22 referring to the inner man.

Who is this inner man?

SCRIPTURE

1 Peter 3:3-4 - Whose adorning let it not be that outward adoring of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. (KJV)

 Let not yours be the [merely] external adorning with [elaborate] [a]interweaving and knotting of the hair, the wearing of jewelry, or changes of clothes;
 But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God.(Amplified)

OBSERVATIONS

1. The Hidden person/heart incorruptive and unfading
2. God sows in us a gentle and peaceful spirit

APPLICATIONS

Ephesians 3:14-20 - I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being. So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people; to grasp  how wide and how long and how deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that supasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of allt he fullness of God.

The inner man or the hidden man of the heart as expressed in today's Proverbs verse refers to the part of us that does not decay when we are in Christ. In 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 it says:
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

The outward parts of us waste away. Even outward behaviors we learned as a child that may seem good but only hide the inner realities waste away. They willnot last. All hidden will be shown.  Our inward person that God is creating into His likeness is being renewed day after day. God is the one who sactifies and sets us apart to be holy. We cannot make ourselves holy.

Prayer: Father, please create in me a clean heart. I pray that if there are any hypocritical masks I wear that you would take them off. I want to be completely surrendered to you. Lord thank you that you do not judge on my outward looks or outward behaviors but you look much deeper. Thank you that you set me apart and you are taking my ashes and making me beautiful.
